We are deeply saddened by the passing of our dear friend, Brian Adams, on the morning of Sunday, July 23, 2017 after a battle with cancer. Brian has been a fixture at the Ottawa Rowing Club and in the greater rowing community for more than 15 years.
Brian touched every boat, oar, dock, every other imaginable piece of equipment and countless souls at the ORC boathouses over many years as our Club Manager and Boatman. He saw many rowers and volunteers come into the ORC boathouses and he, himself, coached, mentored and touched many, many people who have called the ORC a second home.
We will miss his humour, his creative fixes, his love of good music and wine, his stories of his family whom he loved and appreciated so, his banter with his ‘cardiac’ crew after a row, his trombone playing in the old boathouse, his walking in the office holding that elusive boat fin that he found in a log (yet again), and his talk of yoga and the skiing he enjoyed and so much more.
Our thoughts continue to be with Brian’s family. We plan to honour Brian at the ORC, to remember him and all he has done for the ORC family and the rowing community. Details will be shared in the coming days.
