Ottawa Rowing Club Crews win eight Royal Canadian Henley Regatta gold medals

Aug 13, 2017

St Catharines ON – August 13 – ORC senior and junior competitive crews brought home five Henley gold medals on the weekend to add to the three Henley golds that the ORC’s masters crews won on August 6th, as the 135th Royal Canadian henley regatta week of racing wrapped up.

The ORC’s Josh King closed the weekend as the king of Henley winning a record four gold medals in the senior men’s single and senior men’s lightweight single, the men’s championship single and in the senior men’s lightweight pair with teammate Jason Sukstorf. On the women’s side, Lilianne Page won gold in the women’s lightweight single dash.

ORC crews were close to more gold medals with several second place finishes in tight, fast races, including the senior men’s and women’s lightweight four, senior women’s lightweight pair and U19 women’s double.

The week-long regatta is the largest and most challenging summer regatta with qualifying heats early in the week followed by finals on the weekend. More than 2,400 rowers from 137 clubs from across North America compete in the six-day event held in St. Catharines.
