Congrats to our Head of the Charles Crews!

Oct 21, 2019

Crews from the Ottawa Rowing Club (ORC) raced this weekend at the 56th annual Head of the Charles regatta in Boston, MA. The Head of the Charles regatta is one of the largest and most competitive regattas in North America attracting more than 11,000 athletes and thousands of spectators for racing over a three mile stretch of the Charles River.

Despite a short on-water rowing season due to the major Ottawa River flood of 2019, ORC crews have still pulled out wins at major regattas this summer and fall. This is a remarkable achievement by ORC athletes and coaches! And the Head of the Charles Regatta was no exception.

The following ORC crews finished in the top half of their events, guaranteeing these crews entry into the Head of the Charles in 2020:

2nd place out of 15 crews – Women’s Master Eight (40+)
4th place out of 32 crews – Women’s Grand Master Single (50+)
7th place out of 14 crews – Men’s Master Doubles (40+)
28th place out of 85 crews – Women’s Youth Eight

Carleton University, which trains out of the ORC, guaranteed an entry in the Collegiate Men’s Four event after finishing 18th out of 40 crews on Sunday. On the women’s side, Carleton University also secured a guaranteed entry in the Collegiate Women’s Four with a 6th place finish out of 36 crews.

Other results included:
23rd out of 38 crews – Women’s Senior Master Eight (50+)
60th out of 86 crews – Men’s Youth Eight
