ORC Recognized at 64th Annual Ottawa Sports Awards

The Ottawa Rowing Club was recognized at the 64th annual Ottawa Sports Awards Dinner on February 1 at Algonquin College.  The Awards, organized by a committed team of volunteers, honours amateur athletes in the Ottawa region.

ORC rower and paralympian, Andrew Todd, was recognized as Rower of the Year at the dinner.  Andrew’s 2016 season was even more accomplished than 2015, so much so that he was named Rowing Canada’s Para Rower of the Year. While rowing for Canada’s four-person boat at the World Cup held in Poland, he won the gold medal. Andrew’s winning ways continued with a bronze medal in his Paralympic debut at the Rio 2016 Games.

The numerous ORC crews that have won provincial, national or international competitions in 2016 were also recognized with team awards.  A complete list can be found here: https://www.ottawasportsawards.ca/node/1885

Lastly, the Ottawa Rowing Club’s school-based program called Let’s Row Ottawa was awarded the OSA’s endowment fund in support of innovative, community sport programs that make a difference.  The OSA endowment fund will be invested into the ORC’s Let’s Row Ottawa program which brings rowing into middle and high schools in Ottawa teaching healthy, active living to youth through rowing – all for free to schools and Ottawa youth.
