High School rowing provides the opportunity for students to learn to row and compete with their classmates. The ORC is a proud supporter of the Ashbury, Canterbury, Glebe, and Lisgar rowing teams. We also proudly support students from other Ottawa area school who wish to row high school in the spring.
The high school (U19/U17) and middle school (U15) season starts April 18 and ends June 4, 2017.
Within this program, there are three categories:
Category 1 – High School AM
This program is for athletes who wish to compete only in the spring high school season. The athletes will train in the morning with the competitive program six days a week and may attend the ORC National Capital High School, ORC Tulip and CSSRA regattas. If an athlete decides to compete for the rest of the year after the high school season they can join the ORC summer/fall competitive program.
Category 2 – High School PM
This program is for athletes who aspire to but aren’t ready for the full competitive program. Athletes will train three or four days a week in the afternoon. They may compete in the ORC’s Tulip Regatta and National Capital High School regatta.
Practices are after school and Saturday morning. Athletes from high schools with a rowing team should contact their coach about practice times and regatta information.
Athletes from other schools will belong to the Ottawa Rowing Club High School team and will be coached by ORC coaches. Practices will be Monday to Thursday from 4 to 6 pm. Crews will be organized by school, gender and grade.
Category 3 – Middle School PM
Athletes from middle schools will belong to the Ottawa Rowing Club Middles School team and will be coached by ORC coaches. Girls and boys teams will practice Monday to Thursday from 4 to 6 pm.
