ORC partners with Urban Ocean to bring stand-up paddle boarding to the downtown

The Ottawa Rowing Club is very excited to announce its latest partnership with Urban Ocean SUP, coming this summer 2016!  Urban Ocean provides quality Stand Up Paddle Education with emphasis on safety, technique and fun – all values we embrace at the ORC.  Urban Ocean will have a selection of boards on site at the ORC and will be offering a selection of classes such as SUP 101, SUP Fitness, SUP sisters (womens’ only), Floating Yoga, Race Ready and Paddle Socials launching from the ORC docks.

Urban Ocean will also be part of our daytime Canada Day celebrations between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm at the ORC.  July 1 is the perfect opportunity to grab a board and try out SUP for free!

We are thrilled to have the amazing team at Urban Ocean joining us at the ORC and sharing all the joys that being on the Ottawa River brings.  Visit  www.urbanoceansup.com to find out more about Urban Ocean, their team, the classes they will be offering at the ORC (they start Monday, June 27!) and how to register for SUP classes if it strikes your fancy!

A new way of reporting incidents at the ORC

Safety is everyone’s responsibility both on the water and around the club. A vital part of ensuring we have a safe environment is reporting incidents when they take place. We need to know what happened and why, right away so we can take whatever steps are necessary to ensure any problems are addressed quickly and completely.

That means we need all members to fill out the new online incident report (you can find it here) whenever anything happens. Take a moment and bookmark the report location so you can find it if something happens that you need to report. If you aren’t sure whether to report an incident, please take the time to do it.  We would rather have too many reports than to discover something happened a week later

Creating those records will help us keep track of things that occur around the club and also give us the data we need to ensure the ORC continues to be a safe environment for everyone.

Thanks in advance to everyone for your co-operation.

Aaron King is the new ORC athlete representative

We are pleased to announce that Aaron King will assume the position of Athlete’s Representative on the ORC Executive for the upcoming year. Aaron has been involved in the club since 2013, when he began rowing with Carleton’s novice program. He has since competed for the ORC senior men’s team, and the University of Ottawa Varsity team, where he is entering his second year of Law School.

As Athlete’s Rep, Aaron will facilitate communication between the competitive athletes of the ORC and the Executive, and act as an advocate for the athletes during club decisions and operations. His position will also oversee the allocation of financial support from the International and Local Athlete’s Funds. Welcome Aaron!

Parking reminder on the ORC site

If you are an ORC member and you drive to the club, you must obtain a parking pass from the ORC office.  Parking in our lot is included in ORC memberships.  Please ensure you know your license plate number when you come to the office for a pass.

Please continue to take care when entering, parking and leaving the parking lot.  We have many members arriving by foot and bike and so please take care when manoeuvring your vehicle and ensure you park in a valid parking spot.
